Stripe SEPA Direct Debit Fees
This article breaks down the fees your school may incur when accepting SEPA Direct Debit payments through Stripe and Onespot. SEPA is most commonly used for euro-denominated bank debits in the EU and nearby countries.
Fee Type | Typical Charge (Example) | Notes |
Successful Transaction | 0.8% + €0.30 (capped at €6.00) | This is for each successful SEPA Direct Debit. The cap means you won't pay more than a certain amount for large transactions. |
International Cards | +1.5% of transaction | An additional fee if the transaction involves an international card (even if the SEPA payment itself is in EUR). |
Currency Conversion | +1% of transaction | Applies if the payment is in EUR but your payout currency is different (e.g., USD). |
Failed Payments | €3.50 (or similar fixed fee) | Charged when a SEPA Direct Debit payment fails (e.g., due to insufficient funds). Note: This fee was updated in June 2024 to be separate from dispute fees. |
Disputed Payments | €15.00 (or similar fixed fee) | Charged when a customer disputes a SEPA Direct Debit. Note: This fee was updated in June 2024 and is now separate from failed payment fees. |
Refunds | Original processing fees not returned | Stripe typically does not refund the original processing fees when you issue a refund for a SEPA Direct Debit. |
Transaction Limits | €10,000 per transaction | SEPA Direct Debits generally have a per-transaction limit. New users may also have an initial weekly limit that increases as they process more payments. |
📏 Limits to Know
- Transaction Limit: €10,000 per payment

🧠 Things to Keep in Mind
